NIHD suspends non-essential services across District

(Español) -- In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic and an expected surge in cases across the country, state, and county, Northern Inyo Healthcare District will begin suspending non-essential services effective immediately.

This decision is the result of a joint effort between the medical staff, hospital administration, and the NIHD Board of Directors. The goal of this action is to limit the exposure of the community and staff, and to stem the spread of the virus. The District is also trying to conserve the supplies it may need to care for COVID-19 patients, including but not limited to masks, gowns, gloves, medications, and most importantly, staff.

“I want to be very clear that the hospital and clinics as well as ancillary services will still be providing essential services to the community,” said Dr. William Timbers, NIHD’s Chief of Staff.

Some specific examples of what to expect are, cancellation and suspension of routine blood draws and imaging as well as outpatient well checks such as physicals and limiting surgeries to only emergency cases. 

“The health and well-being of our community is paramount and this decision will not only help to limit exposures to COVID-19, but also allows our providers and staff to focus on scaling up our preparedness where it is most needed,” Dr. Timbers said. “NIHD wishes to thank the communities we serve for your understanding, and know that we are here for you and are working tirelessly to ensure we are as prepared as possible.”
