NIHD Kitchen: Mulled Ginger Apple Cider

Our NIHD Dietary Manager, Thomas Warner shares this wonderful winter recipe: Mulled Ginger Apple Cider. This cider is packed with healthy ingredients and tastes great.
Ginger is loaded with antioxidants, compounds that prevent stress and damage to your body's DNA. They may help your body fight off chronic diseases like high blood pressure, heart disease, and diseases of the lungs, plus promote healthy aging.
Ingredients:
- 60oz (or 8c) Apple cider (or Juice)
- 20ea Cloves
- 2ea Cinnamon Sticks, Broken into Large Pieces
- 1ea Orange, unpeeled, Sliced into Rounds
- 2 inches of Ginger, Peeled and sliced
- 4oz Brown sugar (Optional)
Directions:
Place Cider (Juice), Cloves, Cinnamon, Orange, Ginger in a Large Saucepan and bring to a medium simmer, cook for 20 minutes add Brown sugar (Optional) and cook for another 5 min.
Remove from the heat and strain into a china cap or a fine mesh strainer.
Serve warm and enjoy!
