National expert to lead clinical talk on Hantavirus

Northern Inyo Healthcare District will host a special virtual clinical talk on Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) on Wednesday, April 30, at 12:15 p.m. The session will feature Dr. Gregory Mertz, Professor Emeritus of Internal Medicine and former Chief of Infectious Diseases at the University of New Mexico.

Dr. Mertz is a nationally recognized expert in Hantavirus research and care, with more than two decades of National Institutes of Health-supported studies in Chile. He will provide insights into the clinical presentation of HPS, current diagnostic and treatment strategies, and emerging research on this rare but often fatal illness.

The talk is open to physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals. Community members are also welcome to attend.

The event is presented in partnership with Mammoth Hospital, Mono County Public Health and Environmental Health, and Inyo County Public Health and Environmental Health.
